Our DEMANDS.

As community members, staff, students, and alumni, we oppose UCSF’s ongoing use of electively aborted fetuses in research. These practices violate the dignity of human life, rely on cruel abortion methods, and raise serious ethical and legal concerns.

Our objections

  • Inhumane practices: UCSF researchers source organs and tissues from aborted children, often without feticide, meaning fetuses may feel pain or survive briefly after abortion.

  • Unethical incentives: Research protocols create financial and professional rewards that depend on abortion.

  • Legal violations: Evidence suggests UCSF procedures risk live births, raising questions about compliance with state and federal law.

our demands

  • Invest in Alternatives — Replace the use of aborted fetal tissue with ethical sources, such as stillbirths, miscarriages, or organoid models.

  • Institutional Divestment — End collaboration between UCSF researchers and elective abortion providers; prohibit experiments dependent on abortion.

  • Accountability Protocols — Establish safeguards for cases of live birth, enforce compliance with the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act and state law, and install independent oversight.

We call on Chancellor Samuel Hawgood, the Human Research Protection Program, and the UC Board of Regents to:

  • Respond publicly

  • Amend UCSF’s research practices

  • And launch a full investigation into fetal tissue research at UCSF facilities

we demand ethical research now.
